If you choose a lower auto insurance deductible, your insurance premium will normally go up. If you choose a higher deductible your insurance premium will go down.

So if you have Physical Damage coverages on your car you can request higher auto insurance deductible for your Comprehensive and Collision coverage.

Keep in mind to only choose the highest amount that you can afford to get your vehicle repaired if you cannot come up with this money. Your car insurance rates may be higher however it may be worth it depending on your personal situation.

If your car insurance rates increase after lowering your auto insurance deductible, speak with your insurance agent to be sure you are obtaining all the discounts available to you.

To lower your car insurance premium, get new discounts for anti theft devices, safety features, defensive driving course discount etc. This will help balance out the increase to the policy after lowering your deductible.
